Production process
Material selection: The main raw material is wool, especially the wool “kok” from lambs aged 8 to 14 months, which feels delicate, smooth and soft. Cotton is usually used as the warp material on the back of the carpet, and silk is used to emphasize the pattern design and theme, making the carpet soft and reflective. Some carpets use gold and silver threads.
Weaving method: There are mainly two types of Turkish knot weaving and Persian knot weaving. Turkish knot weaving is distributed in the northwest and northeast of Iran, such as Tabriz; Persian knot weaving is mainly in Isfahan and Kashan.
Dyeing process: Most Persian carpets are dyed with crops grown in local farmland or mountains. This unique dyeing method makes the carpets rich in color and unique in value. Up to 250 colors may be used on exhibition-level carpets.
